Injera BeAgelgel (እንጀራ በአገልግል) – Ethiopian Song Shared at Summerfield

We were really lucky in our sessions at Summerfield that Sebrin sang a song she knows in Ahmaric. It involves a clapping pattern which we all had a go at.

in this post you can listen to Sebrin sharing the song with us and watch the video we found on Youtube. in the video Injera BeAgelgel (እንጀራ በአገልግል), a group of youngsters sing and dance to azmari music and traditional instruments in a song about an agelgel, a traditional animal hide basket that Ethiopians use to carry food or to hold the injera that you serve at a meal. It’s sort of like an Ethiopian lunchbox.

We loved the bouncy rhythm and the repeated ‘mmm, mmm, mmm’ phrase.

Do you know any songs you might want to share with your group?
